SECTION 2 -- INSTALLATION PROCEDURES Note: The following examples assume that you are using floppy drive A:, hard drive C: and CD-ROM drive D:. If not, substitute all references with the appropriate drive letters. First, check the hard drive using CHKDSK. Type C: . Then, type CHKDSK . If CHKDSK finds any problems you will need to correct them using CHKDSK /F or SCANDISK before installing Baseball ‘94. Consult your DOS manual for additional information on using CHKDSK or SCANDISK. Then, insert Disk #1 or the CD into the appropriate drive. For the floppy disk version, type A: . For the CD version, type D: . Then type INSTALL and follow the on screen instructions. In the event that you experience problems with computer lock-ups or read errors during installation, try typing INSTALL /F /M to begin the install process. Should problems persist, please see the enclosed manual installation directions. SECTION 3 -- BASEBALL '94 COMMON PROBLEMS PROBLEM: You type PLAYBALL and get a message stating that you do not have enough available memory to play the game. SOLUTION: Verify that your system has 4 MB of RAM, which is the minimum requirement to run Baseball '94. If you do, make a boot disk using the utility in the INSTALL program or the instructions included in this document, to free up sufficient memory to play the game. PROBLEM: The game locks up while using the PC internal speaker for sound reproduction. SOLUTION: The music and sound effects in Baseball '94 are too complicated for the PC speaker to produce. Therefore, if you do not have a sound card with DAC capability, you will not get any sound with the game. If you do not have a sound card installed on your system and you choose to auto-detect the sound card in SOUNDSET, the driver it chooses will be "Sound Source PC". The game will lock up soon after typing PLAYBALL with this driver enabled. Choose "No Sound Card Driver" and the game will run fine. PROBLEM: When beginning a simulation of a game with at least one computer controlled team, you receive the message "Assertion Failure: GAMESET C: XXX". SOLUTION: This problem is caused when an injured player is in the lineup. Release a player from the AAA team to make room for the injured player. If this does not correct the problem, it will be fixed by the update patch. Please see Section 7 -- Obtaining a Sierra Patch for help with this process. PROBLEM: Upon starting, or during play of the game you receive the error "EMM386 Error #12". SOLUTION: Run a hard disk utility such as SCANDISK or CHKDSK /F to check for any errors on the hard drive. If any are found, delete and re- install Baseball '94. If the problem still persists, make a boot disk and add the line "STACKS=18,512" to the CONFIG.SYS file. PROBLEM: At the end of a game, you get an error stating "GAMEOUT.CPP..." SOLUTION: Upon occasion, the files that update player and team statistics following a game will become corrupted. Delete the gameout files from the game directory and replay the game. To do this, type DEL GAME*.OUT inside of the game directory. Then, type DELTREE GAME*, to delete any temporary directories. Usually, replaying the game will correct the problem. PROBLEM: At the start of a game, you receive the error "LU_START.CPP:558". Often, you have just recently made a player trade. SOLUTION: This error indicates that not all slots in the batting order are properly filled. If you have recently traded a starter, make sure to replace him in the lineup! The update patch for the game will prevent this error from occurring. Please see Section 7 -- Obtaining a Sierra Patch. PROBLEM: Upon starting the game, you receive an error stating "PALETTE.CPP". SOLUTION: These errors occur when the game is not properly installed or when program files become corrupted. First, run a hard disk utility such as SCANDISK or CHKDSK /F to find and fix any hard drive errors. Then, delete and re-install the game. Make certain that the BBCHECK procedure runs without problems at the end of the installation procedure. PROBLEM: When the batter hits the ball, the screen blanks out. SOLUTION: Your system is having difficulty switching between the different video resolutions of the batter-pitcher interface screen and the fielding screen. While both resolutions are standard VGA modes, certain video chipsets and monitors will experience this hangup. The update patch disk fixes this problem. Please see Section 7 - Obtaining a Sierra Patch. PROBLEM: During a game, you receive the message "SIM: Assertion Failed: main\earnedr.c:226 ()". SOLUTION: The file handling the game in progress has become corrupted. Deleting the game in progress and replaying will solve this. To do this, restart Baseball '94. When asked to "Play/Watch, Save for Later, or Simulate" the game, select "Save for Later". Then, from the Main Menu, hold down the key and press . In the menu that appears, highlight the corrupted game and select "Do/Delete" to delete it. Finally, restart the game from either the Association Menu or the Team Schedule. The problem should not occur again. PROBLEM: You cannot execute a "double switch" in the game without getting a "Roster2" or "Assertion Failed" error message. SOLUTION: This problem is fixed by the update patch, BB102. Please see Section 7 - Obtaining a Sierra Patch Disk. PROBLEM: The cameras in the game will not stop panning left (or right). SOLUTION: This is most likely caused by improper joystick calibration. Press the 'J' key and re-calibrate your joystick(s). PROBLEM: The ZIPASN batch file will not work. SOLUTION: In order to use the ZIPASN utility, you must have copies of the PKZip and PKUnzip file compression utilities, both produced by PKWare and available for download off of most BBS systems and on-line services. Ensure that you have the PKZip and PKUnzip executable files in a sub- directory that is included in your PATH= statement. To verify this, type PATH and press enter from the DOS command prompt. Check to see if either of these file are located in at least one of the directories shown in the path. If you prefer, you can put a copy of each PKWare file in the baseball sub-directory. PROBLEM: The computer has placed Barry Bonds at catcher! SOLUTION: The logic of the game attempts to place the nine best all-around players on the field. If the offensive value of a player is sufficiently greater than any other player, it may offset any defensive liabilities of placing that player out of position. The game logic has been revised in the update patch, BB102, to make this less common. Please see Section 7 - Obtaining a Sierra Patch Disk. SECTION 4 -- SOUND ISSUES Baseball '94 supports a variety of different sound cards. The game's sound and music configuration is set up through a program called SOUNDSET in the \SIERRA\BASEBALL subdirectory. The SOUNDSET program is run automatically when you first install the game, but you can run it again at any time to change the sound card configuration. If you are having any kind of sound problems during the game, Sierra recommends that you run the SOUNDSET program and choose your sound card and settings manually instead of letting the program auto-detect them. The auto-detect occasionally detects the sound card incorrectly, especially with cards that rely on Sound Blaster "compatibility" or "emulation", and this can cause problems within the game. PROBLEM: You don't get sound through the PC speaker. SOLUTION: The music and sound effects in Baseball '94 are too complicated for the PC speaker to produce. Therefore, if you do not have a sound card with DAC capability, you will not get any sound in the game. In all other respects, however, the game should perform fine. PLEASE NOTE: If you do not have a sound card installed on your system and you choose to "auto-detect" the sound card in SOUNDSET, the driver it chooses will be "Sound Source PC". The game will lock up soon after typing PLAYBALL with this driver enabled. Choose "No Sound Card Driver" and the game will run fine. PROBLEM: The game either locks up or fails to play sounds while using a MAD16 sound card in Sound Blaster emulation mode. SOLUTION: Use the MAD16's Windows Sound System emulation mode instead. Make a boot disk and manually add the following lines to the AUTOEXEC.BAT on the boot disk: SET MAD16=C:\MAD16 C:\MAD16\M16INIT /B /M Next, reboot the computer with the boot disk in drive A: and re-run the SOUNDSET utility in the \SIERRA\BASEBALL directory. Use the "detect your sound card" option: it should show Microsoft Sound System, running at DMA 1 and port address 530h. Save the settings and start the game. PLEASE NOTE: The suggested alterations to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file are default settings only and may vary with your particular system. For more information, please consult your sound card documentation. PROBLEM: Lockups or no sound while using other sound cards that use some form of INIT.EXE file , (eg. SNDINIT.EXE, ISPINIT.EXE, etc...) to set your sound emulation mode. You should check your sound card documentation to see if your sound card uses one of these initialization files. These sound initialization files are in the directory where your sound card files are located. SOLUTION: Look in your AUTOEXEC.BAT on your C drive for the lines that belong to your sound card. Example: SET (SOUND, M16, ISP16, etc...)=C:\(path to your sound card files directory) SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4 C:\(path to your sound card files directory)\(some type of XXinit.exe file name) /B /M Add these lines to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the boot disk. Reboot the computer using the boot disk. Run SOUNDSET in the \SIERRA\BASEBALL directory and choose Microsoft Sound System for the sound driver (DMA 1, PORT 530, IRQ may be blank). Save the settings and start the game. PROBLEM: Lockups or no sound while using an Ensoniq Soundscape sound card. SOLUTION: This sound card is not supported by Baseball '94. You will need to re-run SOUNDSET and choose "No Sound Card Driver". The game will run fine, but without sound. PROBLEM: You do not get any sound in the game with a Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16, while using a boot disk. SOLUTION: The boot disk make will occasionally miss some lines necessary to configure the SB16 properly. Using a text editor, make certain that the following lines appear in the files below on the boot disk. PLEASE NOTE: The following lines are for default configuration of the Sound Blaster 16 and may vary with your particular system. Please consult your sound card documentation for further information. AUTOEXEC.BAT SET SOUND=C:\SB16 SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H1 P300 T6 SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E C:\SB16\SB16SET /P /Q C:\SB16\DIAGNOSE /S CONFIG.SYS DEVICEHIGH=C:\SB16\DRV\CTMMSYS.SYS DEVICEHIGH=C:\SB16\DRV\CTSB16.SYS /BLASTER:A220 I5 D1 /UNIT:0 PROBLEM: You do not get sound in the game while using a sound card other than the ones listed above, running a boot disk. SOLUTION: As with the sound cards discussed above, lines may have been omitted from the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files. Section 9 - Sound Card Driver Information contains a list of common sound cards and the lines for the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. PROBLEM: After making changes with SOUNDSET, the game still hangs up or fails to make proper sounds. SOLUTION: It is possible that the game configuration file was not properly modified to reflect any changes that you made in SOUNDSET. To ensure that changes take place, use a text editor to modify the RESOURCE.CFG file (located in the \SIERRA\BASEBALL subdirectory). Delete all information below the line "[SoundFX]" line. Save your changes and re- run the SOUNDSET utility. Any changes in SOUNDSET will now be properly reflected in RESOURCE.CFG. SECTION 5 - GAME PLAY TIPS Technical Support has limited information regarding Baseball '94 strategy and game play hints. This section contains answers to some frequently- asked questions. For additional game play information, Sierra recommends the Baseball '94 documentation and on-line forums. CompuServe and America On-Line have active forums where you can obtain valuable information from your fellow baseball fans! QUESTION: How do I make camera angle changes during Instant Replays affect camera angles during game play? ANSWER: The default camera mode can only be modified while a play is in progress. The default camera mode is the one that will be recorded to tapes. QUESTION: You cannot put an injured player on the disabled list. ANSWER: Players can only be put on the DL when they are considered seriously hurt. Check the Team News to see the extent of a player's injuries. QUESTION: Can I get a printout of all the statistical abbreviations used in the game? ANSWER: The DATAIN help document can be printed to paper or file. It includes a complete listing of the data entry fields. QUESTION: How can I make the stats screen in the association menu display ALL batters' averages? ANSWER: This is set by the Qualifiers option in the Select Players dialog box. Players without sufficient playing time to qualify for the League lead in batting categories will not have their batting average computed unless the "All Players" option is chosen instead of the "Qualifiers" option. QUESTION: How can I change the stats of individual players to reflect their real stats? ANSWER: You may edit individual players any time they are on a team. Simply go to the Team/Roster screen and Show either the Position Players or Pitchers roster. Then double-click the player name to access the Player Data Edit screen. QUESTION: How can I save different "views" or column combinations, so I don't have to go through the "Change Column" procedure to view different sets of stats? ANSWER: You cannot. While you may customize the view of statistic information with the "Change Column" procedure, these changes may not be saved as default settings. QUESTION: How can I see a "League Leaders" report similar to FPSFB Pro? ANSWER: Go to Association/Statistics and choose Show/Players. QUESTION: How can I get the players to run out their ground balls instead of head for the dugout halfway down the baseline? ANSWER: Players will not run through a base unless they are within 20 feet of that base when the putout is made. QUESTION: How can I speed up the simulation? ANSWER: The simulation engine for this game is very resource-intensive. Every movement of the ball in the stadium must be simulated, with wind, weather, air resistance, spin and force vectors applied to it. This results in an astronomical number of calculations to recreate even one game. With Football Pro '95, there is a "FASTSIM" mode where game results are generated without stats, but that is not an option for Baseball where stats are much more important. To maximize performance of the game, use MS DOS SmartDrive disk caching and avoid using disk compression or software shells. Other than technical solutions, there are no ways to speed up the simulation. We suggest you balance shorter seasons and/or smaller associations between player development and season replay needs. If player development is a prime concern, go with an association size that will provide you with the most seasons in the quickest amount of time. QUESTION: Why do wins that should have gone to the starting pitcher go to the closer? ANSWER: Rule 10.19 covers the winning and losing pitchers. Section (a) states: "Credit the starting pitcher with a game won only if he has pitched at least five complete innings and his team not only is in the lead when he is replaced but remains in the lead the remainder of the game." Section (c) states: "When the starting pitcher cannot be credited with the victory because of the provisions of 10.19 (a) or (b) and more than one relief pitcher is used, the victory shall be awarded on the following basis: (1) When, during the tenure of the starting pitcher, the winning team assumes the lead and maintains it to the finish of the game, credit the victory to the relief pitcher judged by the scorer to have been the most effective; (2) The winning relief pitcher shall be the one who is the pitcher of record when his team assumes the lead and maintains it to the finish of the game. EXCEPTION: Do not credit a victory to a relief pitcher who is ineffective in a brief appearance, when a succeeding relief pitcher pitches effectively in helping his team maintain the lead. In such cases, credit the succeeding relief pitcher with the victory." SECTION 6 -- OBTAINING A SIERRA PATCH DISK There are currently two patches available for Baseball '94, BB101 and BB102. BB102 updates your game to version 1.02, and corrects all issues addressed in BB101. BB102 enhances game logic to provide more realistic simulations and has some new game features. Please refer to the README.BAT file for a full outline of all that it covers. Some of the issues addressed by the BB102 patch include: Adjustments to bat speed in the game logic to reduce unrealistic power hitting statistics. Problems with releasing starting players after the September roster expansion. Errors caused by executing a snap throw with the catcher to first base. Adjustments to the player trade logic to promote equitable trades. The fastest way to obtain a Sierra patch is to download it from one of the following on-line services: the Sierra BBS (206-644-0112), CompuServe (GO SIERRA) or America On-Line (KEYWORD SIERRA). The file name is BB102.EXE and is a self-extracting archive file. Place the file in an empty subdirectory, change to that subdirectory and type BB102 . The README.BAT file will provide further information regarding installation. You can request to have a patch sent to you by faxing Sierra Technical Support at (206) 644-7697 or writing to Sierra On-Line Patch Disks, Dept. 10, PO Box 485, Coarsegold CA 93614-0485. Distribution of patch disks by this method will take approximately three weeks for order processing. SECTION 7 - BOOT DISK INSTRUCTIONS IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read the entire instructions prior to starting at Step 1. You can skip Steps 3 and 4 if you are not playing the CD version of Front Page Sports: Baseball '94. STEP 1 FORMATTING THE DISK To make a boot disk, format a high density diskette in the A: drive. (It is necessary to reformat the disk if it is already formatted.) Formatting the disk with the /S switch will transfer the system files to the disk and allow the computer to boot up correctly. The disk must be in the A: drive; the computer will not boot from the B: drive. Type the FORMAT command as follows: FORMAT A: /S If you get a "Bad command or file name" error message, type: PATH=C:\DOS Then retype the FORMAT command above. If you receive the error again, the MS-DOS FORMAT command may not be on your system, or it may have been renamed. Programs such as PC Tools and Norton Disk Utilities sometimes rename the FORMAT command to prevent accidental loss of data. If you are using a program of this type, check your documentation to find out how to format a SYSTEM DISK, then proceed to Step 2. STEP 2 LOCATING THE MOUSE DRIVER Sierra highly recommends that you use a mouse with Baseball '94. The mouse driver must be loaded into memory with the boot disk. There are two kinds of mouse drivers available: those that load in the CONFIG.SYS file and those that load in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. CONFIG.SYS mouse drivers have an extension of .SYS (MOUSE.SYS) and AUTOEXEC.BAT drivers have either a .COM or .EXE extension (MOUSE.COM, MOUSE.EXE). You must load at least one of these drivers, but it is not necessary to load them all. If you do not know where the mouse drivers are located on your system, the command below should help you locate them. Type the following at the C:\ prompt: DIR MOUSE* /S This command will cause the system to search all subdirectories for a file called MOUSE. If the system locates a MOUSE file, it will display the path where the file is located. For example, if the MOUSE.COM file is located in a C:\MOUSE directory, the system will display: Directory of C:\MOUSE MOUSE.SYS 55160 03-10-92 3:10a MOUSE.COM 56408 03-10-03 6:00a If this procedure does not locate a MOUSE file, your mouse driver may have a different name. Some common names for mouse drivers are IMOUSE, GMOUSE and HPMOUSE. You should check your mouse documentation for the exact file names and how to install them. Once you have located the mouse driver, you must copy it to the boot disk. The following example assumes that the mouse drivers are located in the C:\MOUSE directory as shown in the step above. To copy the MOUSE files to the boot disk, type: COPY C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.* A: Substitute the appropriate path and file names for your mouse drivers in the command above. After you press ENTER, you should see a message indicating that some files were copied. STEP 3 LOCATING THE CD ROM DEVICE DRIVER (skip if not playing the CD version) The CD ROM drive requires a device driver loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file. This driver must be loaded correctly or you will be unable to access your CD ROM drive. To make sure that the device driver loads correctly on the boot disk, look at the CONFIG.SYS on the hard drive and copy the driver line from there. At the C:\ prompt, type: TYPE CONFIG.SYS|MORE NOTE: The | is called a "pipe" command and is created by pressing . The CONFIG.SYS file will display on the screen. Look for the line that loads the CD ROM device driver. The line should look something like this: DEVICE=C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220 DEVICEHIGH=C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220 DEVICEHIGH /L:14652 =C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220 The device driver in your CONFIG.SYS may differ slightly from those listed above. Carefully write down the line for use in your boot disk. Leave out the "/L:" information, if any. If the "HIGH" in "DEVICEHIGH" is missing, add it. Any of the above CD ROM device lines would appear as follows: DEVICEHIGH=C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220 NOTE: If you have a SCSI CD ROM drive, there may be an additional driver in your CONFIG.SYS that must be loaded for the CD ROM device drivers to load correctly. Check your CD drive documentation for more information. STEP 4 LOCATING THE MSCDEX CD ROM EXTENSION (skip if not playing the CD version) In addition to the CD ROM device driver in the CONFIG.SYS, your CD ROM drive requires MSCDEX, the Microsoft extension for CD ROM drives. If this extension is not loaded correctly in the AUTOEXEC.BAT, you will be unable to access your CD ROM drive. To make sure that MSCDEX loads correctly on the boot disk, look at the AUTOEXEC.BAT on the hard drive and copy the MSCDEX line from there. At the C:\ prompt, type: TYPE AUTOEXEC.BAT|MORE The AUTOEXEC.BAT file will display on the screen. Look for the line that loads the MSCDEX extension. It should look something like this: C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 LOADHIGH /L:14429 C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 The MSCDEX line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT may differ slightly from the ones above. Carefully write down the line for use in your boot disk. Leave out the "/L:" information, if any. If the "LH" is missing from the beginning of the MSCDEX line, add it now. If the "/:E" switch is missing from the end of the line, add it. For example, any of the above lines will appear on your boot disk as follows: LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /:E STEP 5 LOCATING THE SOUND CARD DRIVERS Many sound cards have drivers or initialization lines that must be loaded in the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS. Some sound cards that require these drivers or initialization routines are the SoundBlaster 16, MAD16 and the Aria 16. Section 9 - Sound Card Driver Information contains a list of sound card lines for many common sound cards. Check to see if your sound card is on the list. If it is, add the appropriate lines to the AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS on your boot disk. If your sound card is not on the list, check your documentation for information on what needs to load in the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. STEP 6 CREATING THE CONFIG.SYS FILE To create the CONFIG.SYS file on the boot disk, switch to the A: drive and type the following: COPY CON CONFIG.SYS (the cursor will drop down one line and blink) DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM 1024 DOS=HIGH,UMB FILES=30 BUFFERS=20 If you are using the MOUSE.SYS file to load your mouse, add the following line to the CONFIG.SYS: DEVICEHIGH=A:\MOUSE.SYS If you're playing the CD version of Betrayal at Krondor, add the CD ROM device driver as you wrote it down in the "Locating the CD ROM Device Driver" section. For example: DEVICEHIGH=C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220 If you need to load any sound card drivers, copy them from the "Sound Cards" section now. The following example lines are for the SoundBlaster 16: DEVICEHIGH=C:\SB16\DRV\CTSB16.SYS /UNIT=0 /BLASTER=A:220 I:5 D:1 H:5 DEVICEHIGH=C:\SB16\DRV\CTMM.SYS Complete the file by pressing . STEP 7 CREATING THE AUTOEXEC.BAT FILE To create the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the boot disk, switch to the A: drive and type the following: COPY CON AUTOEXEC.BAT (the cursor will drop down one line and blink) @ECHO OFF C:\ SET COMSPEC=C:\COMMAND.COM PROMPT SIERRA BOOT DISK $_$P$G PATH=C:\;C:\DOS;C:\SIERRA If you are using the MOUSE.COM or MOUSE.EXE file to load your mouse driver, add the appropriate line: LH A:\MOUSE.EXE If you're playing the CD version, add the MSCDEX line as you write it down in the "Locating the MSCDEX CD ROM Extension" section. For example: LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 If you need to run any sound card initialization programs or load any drivers, copy them from the "Sound Cards" section now. The following example lines are for the SoundBlaster 16: SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 T6 SET SOUND=C:\SB16 SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E C:\SB16\SB16SET /M:220 /VOC:220 /CD:220 /MIDI:220 /LINE:220 C:\SB16\DIAGNOSE /S Complete the file by pressing . STEP 8 REBOOT THE SYSTEM AND START THE GAME Reboot your system by pressing the button on your computer or by using the key sequence on your keyboard. Refer to your game documentation for the steps to start the game. SECTION 8 - MANUAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Under some circumstances, the installation routine for Baseball '94 will not work properly. This is most likely caused by a conflict with memory-resident programs, such as an anti-virus utilities. If you are experiencing lockups or disk read errors during the install process, the following manual installation instructions will allow you to manually copy the game files from the source disks, or CD, to the hard drive. MANUAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISK VERSION 1. Run CHKDSK to verify that you have at least 21 MB of free non-compressed hard drive space. If your system uses disk compression, such as DriveSpace or Stacker, you need 42 MB free. 2. Create a SIERRA directory on you hard disk's root directory and a BASEBALL subdirectory inside of it. To do this, type: MD \SIERRA CD \SIERRA MD BASEBALL CD BASEBALL MD STATS MD ASSN 3. Copy all of the files from each disk into the \SIERRA\BASEBALL subdirectory. To do this, follow the steps below: Insert Game Disk #1 into your A: drive. Type: COPY A:*.* C:\SIERRA\BASEBALL Repeat the above steps for all remaining game disks. NOTE: The above steps assume that you are installing from your A: drive to your C: drive. Substitute the appropriate drive labels and path if necessary. 4. Type: UNCHUNK RESOURCE.000 . NOTE: The space and period between 000 and are required. 5. Repeat the UNCHUNK process for the remaining RESOURCE files. These files are RESOURCE.001, RESOURCE.002 and RESOURCE.003. NOTE: Make certain to UNCHUNK the resource files in numerical order. If you make a mistake, you will need to erase all of the files from the \SIERRA\BASEBALL subdirectory and follow steps 2 through 5 again. Also note that each UNCHUNK operation will take several minutes to complete. Wait until the computer has completed each operation before typing the next line. 6. After all of the resource files have been UNCHUNKed, type the following commands to complete the stock associations, one at a time: CD ASSN COPY _DEFAULT.PYR MLBPA94.PYR CD ..\STATS COPY _DEFAULT.DAT MLBPA94.DAT CD .. 7. Run the SOUNDSET utility, in the \SIERRA\BASEBALL subdirectory, to specify your installed sound card and its settings. To do this, type: SOUNDSET Follow the on-screen instructions. PLEASE NOTE: If you know what type of sound card is installed in your computer, manually select the appropriate driver and settings in SOUNDSET. While SOUNDSET has an "auto-detect" feature, it can occasionally detect improperly. This is especially true if your sound card is one that relies on a Sound Blaster emulation mode for sound playback. 8. Next, check the integrity of the installation by running the BBCHECK utility, also in the \SIERRA\BASEBALL subdirectory. To do this, type: BBCHECK BBCHECK will report any errors it finds in the installed files. If there are any errors reported, type UNINSTAL and retry the manual installation. 9. Once you have verified that Baseball '94 is running properly, delete the RESOURCE files to reclaim hard drive space. To do this, type: DEL RESOURCE.00? If installation problems persist, or if you have any questions concerning the above steps, our technical support team will be happy to assist you. See Section 10 - If You Still Have Problems... for information regarding contacting Sierra Technical Support via phone, fax, mail or e-mail. MANUAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR CD VERSION 1. To do this, type: MD \SIERRA CD \SIERRA MD BASEBALL CD BASEBALL 3. Copy the files from the Baseball CD to the \SIERRA\BASEBALL subdirectory. To do this, do the following: Insert the Baseball CD into your CD-ROM drive. Type: XCOPY D:\BASEBALL\*.* C:\SIERRA\BASEBALL /S /V NOTE: The above steps assume you are installing from CD-ROM drive D: to hard drive C:. Substitute the appropriate drive letters and path if necessary. 4. 5. If installation problems persist, or if you have any questions concerning the above steps, our technical support team will be happy to assist you.
